Kill Variance. Print Yield.
Every cycle your facility runs on legacy HPS infrastructure, the variance tax compounds silently. Lamp lumen depreciation begins the moment a bulb fires — by hour 10,000, output has degraded measurably while your electrical draw stays constant. Ballasts drift. Reflectors oxidize. Manual dimming controls introduce dead zones where canopy edges receive inconsistent DLI relative to the center footprint. The result is not a single catastrophic failure — it is a slow, invisible erosion of yield consistency that shows up in harvest weight variance, cannabinoid profile inconsistency, and HVAC systems perpetually chasing a radiant heat load that was never engineered to be controlled.
After deployment, the facility operates on a different logic entirely. Every fixture in the array delivers the same photon output at hour one as it does at hour 50,000. Scheduling is automated through 0–10V dimming integration — no manual intervention, no dead zones, no technician time spent adjusting individual units. Canopy density becomes uniform because the light architecture is uniform. HVAC systems stabilize because the thermal load is predictable and consistent. Lamp replacement cycles disappear from the maintenance calendar. What remains is a production environment where the primary variable is cultivation protocol, not equipment degradation.
The mechanism behind that outcome is a 672-diode array operating at 1500 watts, producing 3187 µmol/s of photon output at a verified efficacy of 2.14 µmol/J. The Phyto-Genesis Spectrum® covers 350–750nm (Beyond PAR™), incorporating 3% UV content calibrated to match natural sunlight's secondary metabolite stimulus — supporting terpene and cannabinoid expression via a spectrally complete diode platform rather than a single-channel approximation. An oversized heatsink structure paired with a redundant active cooling system and redundant power supplies eliminates passive failure points. A glass lens rated at greater than 99.5% transmissivity ensures photon delivery is not attenuated at the fixture exit. Dimming operates from 15–100% (dim-to-off) via 0–10V signal, enabling automated scheduling without external relay hardware. In practical terms, the PhytoMAX-4 24S delivers 3187 µmol/s across a commercial canopy footprint at 1500 watts draw with 5115 BTU/hr thermal output.
Where This Belongs (and Doesn't)
Not recommended for circuits under ~12.5A @120V or ~6.25A @240V per fixture, or unsealed rooms lacking HVAC capacity for expected thermal load.
This fixture draws up to 1500 watts at full output. Verify dedicated circuit capacity, breaker sizing, and HVAC thermal load calculations before installation. Electrical infrastructure must meet local code requirements for commercial damp-location luminaire installation.
Engineered For
- Licensed commercial cultivation facilities operating sealed production rooms
- Facility directors managing multi-fixture arrays requiring uniform DLI across canopy
- Operations replacing 1000W DE HPS infrastructure and seeking elimination of lamp replacement cycles
- Environments with 0–10V dimming controller integration for automated photoperiod scheduling
- High-cannabinoid, high-terpene production targets requiring full-spectrum UV and IR stimulus
- Vegetative coverage: up to 6 x 6 ft | Flower coverage: up to 5 x 5 ft
Not Recommended For
- Facilities without dedicated 15A+ circuit capacity per fixture at 120V (or appropriately sized circuits at higher voltages)
- Environments without active HVAC capable of managing 5115 BTU/hr per unit thermal load
- Operations without structured mounting infrastructure rated for 47 lbs per fixture point load
- Facilities requiring plug-and-play deployment without electrical infrastructure review
Infrastructure Note: At 1500W per unit, a 10-fixture array introduces 15,000W of electrical load and 51,150 BTU/hr of thermal output. HVAC and electrical panel capacity must be engineered to these aggregate figures prior to deployment. Consult a licensed electrical contractor and mechanical engineer for facility-scale integration planning.
How It Works
The PhytoMAX-4 24S is built around a 672-diode array configured to deliver the Phyto-Genesis Spectrum® — a proprietary spectral architecture spanning 350nm to 750nm (Beyond PAR™). This range is not a marketing designation; it is a functional specification. The 3% UV content within the spectrum is calibrated to match the UV fraction present in natural sunlight, providing the photochemical stimulus associated with secondary metabolite production — specifically terpene synthesis and cannabinoid accumulation — that narrower-band LED platforms cannot replicate. The full spectral range from deep UV through near-infrared ensures that photomorphogenic responses across all growth stages are driven by the same fixture without spectral channel switching or supplemental lighting hardware.
Thermal management is handled by an oversized heatsink structure combined with an active cooling system incorporating redundant fans. The redundancy architecture means a single fan failure does not result in fixture shutdown or thermal runaway — the system continues operating while the fault is identified and serviced. An automatic over-temperature shut-off provides a final protection layer. Total heat output is 5115 BTU/hr, a figure that is deterministic and plannable — unlike HPS radiant heat, which varies with lamp age and ballast condition. Power delivery is handled by redundant power supplies, eliminating the single-point failure mode that terminates production cycles in single-supply designs. Driver efficiency is rated at 94%, meaning electrical losses to heat at the driver stage are minimized relative to photon output. The glass lens, rated at greater than 99.5% transmissivity, ensures that photons generated at the diode surface are not attenuated before reaching the canopy. Dimming is executed via 0–10V signal input, covering a 15–100% range with dim-to-off capability, enabling full photoperiod automation through compatible building management or lighting control systems. In practical terms, the PhytoMAX-4 24S delivers 3187 µmol/s of calibrated full-spectrum photon output at 2.14 µmol/J efficacy from a 19" x 19" x 4.5" fixture weighing 47 lbs, drawing 1500 watts across a 100–277V (24SC) or 100–250V (24SP) input range.
Pick Your Configuration
Both the 24SC and 24SP variants share identical photon output (3187 µmol/s), efficacy (2.14 µmol/J), wattage (1500W), diode count (672), thermal output (5115 BTU/hr), dimensions (19" x 19" x 4.5"), and weight (47 lbs). The functional difference is in power connection architecture and input voltage range.
- 24SC (SKU: BD001-0114 | $2,499.00): Equipped with a locking, water-tight power cord. Input voltage range: 100–277V. Designed for commercial facilities requiring secure, moisture-resistant power connections — appropriate for environments where cord security and ingress protection at the connection point are operational requirements. Compatible with standard U.S. commercial electrical infrastructure including 208V and 240V three-phase distribution.
- 24SP (SKU: BD001-0107 | $2,479.00): Equipped with a standard IEC power cord. Input voltage range: 100–250V. Appropriate for facilities with IEC-standard power distribution or where locking cord features are not required by facility protocol.
Selection guidance: If your facility uses 277V distribution or requires locking, water-tight cord connections at the fixture level, specify the 24SC. If your facility operates at 240V or below with standard IEC power infrastructure, either variant is electrically compatible — select based on cord connection requirements.

Operator Field Note
- Structural Load: Each PhytoMAX-4 24S weighs 47 lbs. Mounting points, overhead racking, and support structures must be rated for this load per fixture. Do not suspend from unrated wire or chain without verifying load capacity.
- Electrical — Amperage: At 120V, each 1500W fixture draws approximately 12.5A. Minimum 20A dedicated circuit per fixture recommended at 120V. At 240V, draw is approximately 6.25A. At 277V (24SC only), draw is approximately 5.4A. Verify with a licensed electrician to local code.
- UV Content Advisory: The Phyto-Genesis Spectrum® includes UV output (3% UV content, 350nm+). Do not operate with direct, prolonged eye or skin exposure without appropriate UV-protective eyewear and skin protection. Follow all safety protocols for UV-emitting luminaires in occupied spaces.
- Thermal Management: 5115 BTU/hr per fixture is a fixed, deterministic load. HVAC systems must be sized to aggregate fixture count. Do not operate in unventilated or thermally unmanaged spaces — automatic over-temperature shut-off will activate if ambient conditions exceed operating thresholds.
- Redundant Systems: Both fans and power supplies are redundant. If a fan failure indicator or alarm is present in your monitoring system, service the fixture promptly — redundancy provides operational continuity, not indefinite fault tolerance.
- Certifications on File: UL 1598, UL 8800, ETL, CE, FCC, and RoHS certifications should be retained in facility compliance documentation for AHJ inspection and insurance purposes.
Operator FAQ
Q: What circuit capacity does each PhytoMAX-4 24S require, and how should I size breakers for a multi-fixture array?
A: Each PhytoMAX-4 24S draws 1500 watts. At 120V, that is approximately 12.5A per fixture — a dedicated 20A circuit per fixture is the minimum recommended configuration at 120V. At 240V, draw drops to approximately 6.25A per fixture; at 277V (24SC only), approximately 5.4A. For multi-fixture arrays, calculate aggregate amperage per circuit and size breakers to no more than 80% of rated circuit capacity per NEC guidelines. Consult a licensed electrician for facility-specific panel and wire gauge specifications.
Q: What dimming controllers are compatible, and what dimming modes does the fixture support?
A: The PhytoMAX-4 24S accepts a standard 0–10V dimming signal. Any 0–10V compatible lighting controller — including building management systems, dedicated grow room controllers, and timer-based 0–10V signal generators — is compatible. The dimming range is 15–100% with dim-to-off capability, meaning the fixture can be fully extinguished via the control signal without a separate relay or switch. Verify that your controller outputs a true 0–10V analog signal; PWM-only controllers are not compatible without a signal converter.
Q: What is the recommended mounting height for vegetative and flowering stages?
A: Black Dog LED recommends consulting the PhytoMAX-4 PPFD map documentation for precise mounting height recommendations, as optimal height varies by target PPFD, canopy stage, and room geometry. As a general operational guideline for high-intensity commercial fixtures at this output level (3187 µmol/s), mounting heights typically range from 18–36 inches above canopy for flowering and 24–48 inches for vegetative stages. Refer to the manufacturer's published PPFD charts for the 24S model and validate with a calibrated quantum sensor at your specific mounting height before locking in rack positions.
Q: What are the vegetative and flowering coverage dimensions for the PhytoMAX-4 24S?
A: The PhytoMAX-4 24S is rated for up to 6 x 6 ft vegetative coverage and up to 5 x 5 ft flowering coverage per fixture. Flowering coverage is the more conservative figure and reflects the higher PPFD density required during reproductive stages. Array spacing should be planned around the 5 x 5 ft flowering footprint to ensure uniform canopy DLI across the production floor. Vegetative spacing can be expanded to the 6 x 6 ft footprint to reduce fixture count during propagation and early growth phases.
Q: What is the rated lifespan, and what maintenance does the fixture require over its operational life?
A: The PhytoMAX-4 24S is rated for greater than 75,000 hours of operation, with a Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) exceeding 70,000 hours per manufacturer specification. There are no lamp replacement cycles — the diode array is the light source and is rated for the full fixture lifespan. Routine maintenance consists of periodic lens cleaning to maintain the greater than 99.5% transmissivity rating of the glass lens, fan inspection to confirm airflow is unobstructed, and monitoring of the redundant fan and power supply systems for fault indicators. No ballast servicing, lamp sourcing, or reflector replacement is required.
Q: What is the warranty coverage, and how do I initiate a warranty claim through Cannafull Spectrum Solutions?
A: The PhytoMAX-4 24S carries a 5-year limited warranty from Black Dog LED, covering manufacturing defects under normal commercial operating conditions. Additionally, Black Dog LED offers a 90-day money-back guarantee. To initiate a warranty claim or return, contact Cannafull Spectrum Solutions directly at (888) 378-0017 or sales@cannafullspec.com.
