Kill Variance. Print Yield.
Legacy HPS infrastructure does not fail loudly — it fails incrementally. Lamp lumen depreciation begins the moment a bulb fires, and by the time output has degraded 20–30%, most facilities have already absorbed the yield loss without ever identifying the cause. Passive failure points compound the problem: ballasts running hot, reflectors accumulating particulate, manual dimming schedules that drift between operators. The result is a canopy that looks uniform but performs inconsistently — and a cost-per-gram that climbs quietly every cycle while the root cause stays invisible in the maintenance log.
After deployment of the PhytoMAX-4 2S, the facility operates on a different set of rules. Every fixture in the array delivers the same photon output on day one as it does in year three. Scheduling is automated and daisy-chained across the room, eliminating operator-to-operator variance in light cycle execution. There are no lamp replacement cycles to schedule, no ballast failures to diagnose mid-run, and no thermal surprises from fixtures running without active cooling. The canopy receives consistent, spectrally targeted energy from the first day of vegetative growth through final flush — and the output data reflects it.
The mechanism behind that consistency is the Phyto-Genesis Spectrum® — a continuous 350–750nm spectral architecture built on Beyond PAR™ technology that delivers biologically active energy across UV, visible, and far-red wavelengths, supporting secondary metabolite expression, canopy penetration, trichome density, and compact internode structure. The 125-watt platform produces 266 µmol/s at a verified system efficacy of 2.14 µmol/J through 56 diodes behind a glass lens rated at greater than 99.5% transmissivity, driven by 94%-efficient modular drivers. Thermal management is active — redundant fans with over-temperature shut-off protect the diode array across the full 75,000-hour rated lifespan. Control architecture supports 0–10V dimming from 15–100%, waterproof locking data plugs, and daisy-chain topology for room-level scheduling without external relay hardware. In practical terms, the PhytoMAX-4 2S delivers 266 µmol/s across its coverage footprint at 125 watts draw with 426 BTU/hr heat output and a 2.14 µmol/J system efficacy rating.
Where This Belongs (and Doesn't)
Not recommended for circuits under ~1.04A @120V or ~0.52A @240V per fixture, or unsealed rooms lacking HVAC capacity for expected thermal load.
Minimum infrastructure requirement: dedicated 15A circuit per fixture at 120V (or appropriately sized circuit at higher voltage); HVAC system sized to manage 426 BTU/hr per unit of supplemental heat load in addition to existing room thermal baseline.
Engineered For
- Licensed commercial cultivation facilities operating sealed rooms with active environmental control
- Facility directors managing multi-fixture arrays requiring consistent, schedulable photon delivery
- Operators targeting 80–120+ g/sq. ft. yield benchmarks with documented cannabinoid profiles
- Vegetative coverage: data not specified by manufacturer for this model series — consult Black Dog LED FloraFlux™ light mapping for site-specific layout
- Flower coverage: consult Black Dog LED FloraFlux™ light mapping for site-specific PPFD targets and fixture spacing
- Facilities requiring 0–10V dimming integration and daisy-chain control topology
- Environments targeting 85°F leaf surface temperature for optimized metabolic rates
Not Recommended For
- Facilities without active HVAC capacity to absorb 426 BTU/hr per fixture
- Operations requiring plug-and-play deployment without electrical infrastructure review
- Environments where leaf surface temperature cannot be maintained near 85°F
- Facilities seeking fixtures without active cooling where passive thermal management is preferred
- Applications outside the 100–277V (2SC) or 100–250V (2SP) input voltage range
Infrastructure Note: The PhytoMAX-4 2S operates at 125 watts continuous draw. At 120V, verify circuit capacity before deploying multiple units on shared branch circuits. HVAC load calculations must account for 426 BTU/hr per fixture as a baseline thermal addition to the room's existing heat load. Consult Black Dog LED's FloraFlux™ light mapping service for fixture count, spacing, and PPFD uniformity modeling prior to installation.
How It Works
The PhytoMAX-4 2S is built around the Phyto-Genesis Spectrum® — a continuous spectral output architecture spanning 350nm to 750nm that encompasses UV, violet, blue, green, red, and far-red wavelengths under the Beyond PAR™ framework. This is not a binned multi-channel approach with discrete peaks; it is a designed spectral curve that delivers biologically active energy across the full range plants use for photomorphogenesis, photosynthesis, and secondary metabolite production — including UV-driven trichome and pigmentation responses and far-red-driven canopy penetration and extension signaling. The 56-diode array is housed in a compact 8.5" x 8.5" x 4.5" chassis weighing 9 lbs, with each diode operating behind a glass lens rated at greater than 99.5% transmissivity to eliminate the output losses associated with polycarbonate optics that yellow and degrade over time.
Power conversion is handled by modular drivers rated at 94% efficiency, minimizing resistive losses and reducing the heat burden transferred to the grow environment. Active cooling via redundant fans maintains diode junction temperatures within operating parameters across the full duty cycle, with an over-temperature shut-off circuit providing a hard protection layer against thermal runaway events. The result is a 75,000-hour rated lifespan — exceeding 8.5 years of continuous 24/7 operation — without the lamp replacement cycles, ballast servicing, or reflector degradation that define the total cost of ownership under legacy HPS infrastructure. Control is executed via 0–10V dimming across a 15–100% range, with waterproof locking data plugs and daisy-chain capability enabling room-level scheduling from a single control point. Input voltage acceptance spans 100–277V on the 2SC variant and 100–250V on the 2SP variant, providing deployment flexibility across standard U.S. commercial electrical infrastructure. In practical terms, the PhytoMAX-4 2S delivers 266 µmol/s of photon output at 2.14 µmol/J system efficacy through a 350–750nm spectral architecture at 125 watts continuous draw with 426 BTU/hr heat output and a 75,000-hour diode lifespan rating.
Pick Your Configuration
The PhytoMAX-4 2S 125W is available in two variants — 2SC and 2SP — with identical photon output, spectral architecture, and physical specifications. The functional difference is electrical interface and input voltage range.
- 2SC (SKU: BD001-0108 | $489.00): Accepts 100–277V input. Equipped with water-tight locking cord. Recommended for facilities wiring to 208V, 240V, or 277V commercial branch circuits, or any installation where weatherproof cord termination is required. This variant provides the broadest voltage compatibility across U.S. commercial electrical infrastructure.
- 2SP (SKU: BD001-0101 | $469.00): Accepts 100–250V input. Equipped with standard IEC cord. Suitable for facilities operating on 120V or 208–240V circuits where a standard IEC power connection is preferred and the higher-voltage 277V range is not required.
Selection guidance: If your facility operates at 277V or requires water-tight cord connections for code compliance, select the 2SC. If your infrastructure is 120V–240V and a standard IEC cord is acceptable, the 2SP delivers identical photon performance at a lower unit cost. Confirm input voltage with your licensed electrician before ordering.

System Integration
To operate this platform at peak efficiency, verify your ecosystem matches these requirements:
- Dimming Control: 0–10V compatible controller required for dimming functionality across the 15–100% range. Daisy-chain topology supported via waterproof locking data plugs — verify controller channel capacity against planned fixture count before deployment.
- Mounting: Fixture weighs 9 lbs (8.5" x 8.5" x 4.5"). Mounting hardware and structural attachment points must be rated for the fixture weight plus dynamic load factor per local building code. Consult Black Dog LED's FloraFlux™ light mapping service for mounting height recommendations specific to your target PPFD and coverage footprint.
- Power Infrastructure: 2SC variant: 100–277V input. 2SP variant: 100–250V input. Verify branch circuit capacity for planned fixture density. At 125W per unit, calculate total amperage draw per circuit at your facility's operating voltage before finalizing electrical layout.
- HVAC Capacity: Each fixture contributes 426 BTU/hr to room thermal load. Size HVAC capacity to absorb the cumulative heat output of the full fixture array in addition to the existing baseline room heat load. Undersized cooling is the primary cause of canopy temperature variance in high-density LED deployments.
- Light Planning: Black Dog LED's FloraFlux™ software models individual LED output for precise intensity mapping. Engage FloraFlux™ planning prior to fixture procurement to confirm unit count, spacing, and uniformity targets for your specific room geometry.

Operator Field Note
- Structural Load: Each PhytoMAX-4 2S fixture weighs 9 lbs. Overhead mounting systems, racking, and suspension hardware must be rated for the fixture weight plus an appropriate dynamic load safety factor per local building and electrical code. Verify structural attachment points before installation in multi-fixture arrays.
- Electrical — Amperage: At 125W continuous draw, calculate amperage per fixture at your facility's operating voltage (e.g., approximately 1.04A at 120V; approximately 0.46A at 277V). Size branch circuits to NEC 80% continuous load rule. Do not share circuits with high-inrush equipment without consulting a licensed electrician.
- UV Exposure Warning: The Phyto-Genesis Spectrum® includes UV output beginning at 350nm. Do not operate fixtures without appropriate eye and skin protection during maintenance, inspection, or any period of direct exposure. Follow all manufacturer safety guidelines for UV-emitting luminaires.
- Thermal Setpoints: Black Dog LED specifies 85°F as the optimal leaf surface temperature for peak metabolic rates and secondary metabolite expression. Room air temperature setpoints should be calibrated to achieve this LST target, not simply to maintain ambient air temperature. Verify with canopy-level temperature sensors, not room-level sensors alone.
- Active Cooling Maintenance: Redundant cooling fans are a primary reliability component. Inspect fan operation and clear any particulate accumulation from intake and exhaust paths at regular maintenance intervals. Fan failure will trigger the over-temperature shut-off circuit — a shut-off event should be treated as a maintenance flag, not a nuisance trip.
- Daisy-Chain Topology: Waterproof locking data plugs support daisy-chain control wiring. Verify total fixture count per daisy-chain run against controller channel specifications before finalizing control wiring layout. Exceeding controller channel capacity will result in incomplete dimming command execution across the array.
Operator FAQ
Q: What amperage does the PhytoMAX-4 2S draw, and how should I size my circuits?
A: The PhytoMAX-4 2S draws 125 watts continuously. Amperage varies by operating voltage: approximately 1.04A at 120V, approximately 0.60A at 208V, approximately 0.52A at 240V, and approximately 0.45A at 277V (2SC variant only). Per NEC continuous load rules, size branch circuits to no more than 80% of rated capacity. For example, a 15A/120V circuit should not carry more than 12A of continuous load — verify fixture count per circuit against this threshold with a licensed electrician before installation. Amp draw data is provided for the 2S model series; confirm with Black Dog LED for site-specific electrical planning.
Q: What controller is required for dimming, and what modes does the PhytoMAX-4 2S support?
A: The PhytoMAX-4 2S uses a 0–10V dimming interface, supporting output adjustment from 15% to 100% of rated photon output. Any 0–10V compatible lighting controller can be used. The fixture supports daisy-chain wiring via waterproof locking data plugs, allowing multiple units to be controlled from a single controller channel. Verify your controller's channel capacity against your planned fixture count before finalizing the control wiring layout. Contact Black Dog LED or Cannafull Spectrum Solutions at (888) 378-0017 for controller compatibility guidance specific to your facility configuration.
Q: What is the recommended mounting height for the PhytoMAX-4 2S?
A: Optimal mounting height depends on your target PPFD, canopy uniformity requirements, and room geometry. Black Dog LED offers FloraFlux™ light mapping software that models individual LED output to generate precise intensity measurements and mounting height recommendations for your specific facility layout. Cannafull Spectrum Solutions recommends engaging FloraFlux™ planning prior to fixture installation to avoid post-installation repositioning. Contact us at (888) 378-0017 or sales@cannafullspec.com to connect with Black Dog LED's facility design and light planning services.
Q: What are the vegetative and flower coverage dimensions for the PhytoMAX-4 2S?
A: Black Dog LED does not publish fixed vegetative and flower coverage footprint dimensions for the PhytoMAX-4 2S in the manner of a single-number specification, because optimal coverage is a function of mounting height, target PPFD, and room geometry rather than a fixed area. Black Dog LED's FloraFlux™ light mapping service is the manufacturer-recommended method for determining fixture count, spacing, and coverage layout for your specific facility. Contact Cannafull Spectrum Solutions at (888) 378-0017 or sales@cannafullspec.com to initiate a FloraFlux™ light plan for your room dimensions and yield targets.
Q: What is the rated lifespan of the PhytoMAX-4 2S, and what maintenance does it require over that period?
A: The PhytoMAX-4 2S carries a 75,000+ hour diode lifespan rating — equivalent to more than 8.5 years of continuous 24/7 operation — per Black Dog LED manufacturer specification. There are no lamp replacement cycles. Maintenance over the fixture's operational life consists primarily of: (1) periodic inspection and cleaning of active cooling fan intake and exhaust paths to prevent particulate accumulation; (2) inspection of waterproof locking data plug connections at scheduled intervals; and (3) monitoring for over-temperature shut-off events, which should be investigated as a cooling system maintenance flag. The glass lens (greater than 99.5% transmissivity) does not yellow or degrade like polycarbonate optics, eliminating lens replacement as a maintenance item.
Q: How do I initiate a warranty claim for a PhytoMAX-4 2S purchased through Cannafull Spectrum Solutions?
A: The PhytoMAX-4 2S carries a 5-year manufacturer warranty per Black Dog LED specification. To initiate a warranty claim on a unit purchased through Cannafull Spectrum Solutions, contact our team directly at (888) 378-0017 or sales@cannafullspec.com. A Return Authorization (RA) number is required before any unit is shipped back — do not return units without an RA, as unauthorized returns cannot be processed. - In the event of a pricing error, including typographical errors or shipping calculation errors (e.g., a freight item calculating as standard ground), Cannafull Spectrum Solutions reserves the right to cancel any orders placed for the product listed at the incorrect price or rate, regardless of whether the order has been confirmed or your credit card charged. If your credit card has already been charged, we will immediately issue a credit to your account.
Damaged Shipments
- Inspect Upon Arrival: Please inspect all packages immediately upon delivery, before signing any delivery confirmation documents.
- Note Damage: If you notice any damage to the packaging or suspect damage to the contents, you MUST note this specifically on the delivery receipt provided by the carrier (e.g., "Package damaged," "Subject to inspection"). If possible, take photos of the damage.
- Contact Us Immediately: Report any shipping damage to us at Cannafull Spectrum Solutions right away (within 24-48 hours maximum). Keep all original packaging materials. Failure to note damage on the delivery receipt or report it promptly may affect our ability to file a claim with the carrier.
Shipping Address & Limitations
- Accuracy: Please ensure your shipping address is complete and accurate. Address changes after shipment are often not possible and may incur fees.
- PO Boxes: We can only ship small, standard items to PO Boxes via USPS. Heavy items and Freight shipments (Tents, Freeze Dryers) require a physical street address. Orders for heavy items to PO Boxes will be cancelled or held until a physical address is provided.
